About SingAREN
What is SingAREN? [ top ]
SingAREN is a non-profit society that is Singapore's Research and Education Network (REN). We maintain connectivity among our Singapore members and RENs in other countries through international communities such as APAN, TEIN, and Internet2.
What is the motivation behind SingAREN? [ top ]
To promote R&D in next generation internet technologies, facilitate cost-competitive adoption of advance Internet technologies, link Singapore's research and education community globally, and foster collaborations.
What can we use SingAREN for? [ top ]
SingAREN offers a dedicated line for academia and research organizations to link up to universities or research institutes worldwide which are also connected to their respective REN to carry out collaborative research or applications. SingAREN can be used as an experimental platform to investigate, develop and test new network technologies and applications prior to deployment for commercial use.
Who manages the SingAREN Network? [ top ]
SingAREN NOC is currently being supported by Datacraft on a 24x7 basis. The NOC Management and Policies are under the purview of the SingAREN Executive Committee.

Connecting to SingAREN
Why should I connect to SingAREN? [ top ]
By connecting to SingAREN, you gain access to a global network infrastructure containing relevant international research centres and organisations worldwide that are dedicated to developing technologies for the Next Generation Internet. Your organisation will benefit from being able to exchange ideas and share research findings on an international scale, with professional groups all over the world.
Who are allowed to connect to SingAREN? [ top ]
The connection to SingAREN is open to all Institutes of Higher Learning, research centers and institutes, collaboratories and such similar non-profit organisations involved in research. SingAREN services are intended solely for research and education purpose. Commercial use is restricted. For more information, please refer to our Acceptable User Policy.
Who can I reach when I'm connected to SingAREN? [ top ]
Research centres, institutes, and organisations worldwide who are connected to their countries' respective Research and Education Networks to the global community. SingAREN's international partners include Internet2, TEIN2, and APAN community. SingAREN also peers with other international Research and Education Networks (REN) such as AARNet in Australia, KAREN in New Zealand, and NICT in Japan. Can I reach the university I'm collaborating with only via SingAREN? [ top ]
You can reach them through means other than SingAREN. However, the dedicated line offered by SingAREN allows performance not possible on today's Internet. More than a faster Web or email, the connection allows new applications such as digital libraries, virtual labs and classrooms, distance learning and tele-immersion.
What applications are used on your link? [ top ]
SingAREN supports research and education activities of its members, such as research collaborations, distance education programmes by universities and polytechnics and high-speed bulk data transfer over SingAREN network.
How do I get connected to SingAREN? [ top ]
Your organisation needs to be connected to our router via a GE / FE link. Once it is set up, you can subscribe to the service plans we offer. Please refer to Connect to Us.
How much is the cost to get connected to SingAREN? [ top ]
A new connection to SingAREN typically involves the cost of a new GE / FE link to SingAREN router, installation & equipment cost, and the monthly subscription. Please refer to Connect to Us or Contact Us for more details.
Can I switch from one plan to another if there is a change in my requirement? [ top ]
Yes. Do let us know 7 days in advance. Please refer to Connect to Us for more details.
Do I need to give any notice to terminate the service? [ top ]
Yes. You need to give us a 1-month notice. Otherwise, a penalty is applicable.
Billing Information
How will SingAREN bill my organization? [ top ]
SingAREN will send an invoice at the end of each month to the billing address provided by you. If the service commences after 1st of the month, charges for the month will be calculated on a prorated basis.
How should payment be made to SingAREN? [ top ]
You may issue a cheque payable to SingAREN, and send it to:
